Dr. Wael Sakr is the Dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, overseeing the Office of Medical Education, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and faculty recruitment and evaluation. He is a nationally recognized academic pathologist with a focus on genitourinary neoplasia, particularly prostate cancer.
Dr. Sakr has made seminal contributions to understanding the histopathological traits of preneoplastic changes in the prostate, including the identification of high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia as a precursor to prostate adenocarcinoma. He has received NIH funding for independent and collaborative research and has led numerous clinical trials.
Dr. Sakr has held leadership roles in organizations such as the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) and the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services.
