Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah is a British-Palestinian Associate Professor of Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and the Rector of the University of Glasgow. He completed his medical education at the University of Glasgow and specialized in Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery, Cleft Surgery, and Trauma Reconstruction through fellowships at leading institutions in London.
From 2012 to 2020, Dr. Abu-Sittah served as Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), where he led the Pediatric War Injuries Program and the War Injuries Multidisciplinary Clinic. He co-founded and directed the Conflict Medicine Program at AUB’s Global Health Institute.
Dr. Abu-Sittah is Clinical Lead for the Operational Trauma Initiative at WHO’s EMRO Office, serves on the boards of INARA and Medical Aid for Palestinians, and holds academic roles at Imperial College London and King’s College London.
A recognized expert on the health impacts of conflict, he has authored two textbooks and has worked as a war surgeon in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza.
