Dr. Fouad is an Associate Professor of Public Health Practice at the Faculty of Health and Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Co-Director of the Refugee Health Program at the Global Health Institute. His work centers on the health and well-being of forcibly displaced populations, with a particular focus on the Syrian refugee crisis and its broader impact.
Dr. Fouad’s expertise extends to the health workforce in humanitarian settings and the weaponization of healthcare in armed conflicts. He serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous projects addressing health challenges in protracted and armed conflict contexts.
He has held key roles as a commissioner on two influential Lancet Commissions: the AUB-Lancet Commission on Syria and Global Governance and the UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health. Dr. Fouad is widely published, with over 70 articles, op-eds, and reports featured in leading journals such as The Lancet, PLOS, BMJ, and Conflict and Health, as well as major outlets like The New York Times.
