Dr. Akbar K. Waljee is a Professor of Learning Health Sciences and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and serves as the assistant dean for global health research in the Medical School. In addition to his role as a professor, Dr. Waljee is a research scientist at the VA Ann Arbor Center for Clinical Management Research and director of the Data Collaborative at the Center for Global Health Equity.
Dr. Waljee’s research and clinical interests center on improving healthcare access, quality, and efficiency, particularly in resource-constrained settings. He leverages advanced methodologies, such as artificial intelligence, to enhance decision-making and deliver equitable care both locally and globally.
His global health efforts focus on delivering high-value care through data science in low- and middle-income countries, aligning with the goals of global health equity. Dr. Waljee addresses social and environmental determinants of health by providing technical solutions to improve healthcare delivery. Through the use of machine learning and AI, he tailors his work to facilitate efficient, effective, and equitable care, especially in low-resource environments.
